How many people do you know have unhealthy habits? Everybody has unhealthy habits in some form. But the importance of recognising these unhealthy habits and making swaps for the good ones is a long process. It’s hard to identify what is bad for you because it’s a very subjective term. But there are some commonalities that we are all aware of. For example, tobacco, sugar, white bread etc. And while all these are very tasty, we’ve got to use our common sense to incorporate the right swaps. This is what will keep us healthy in the long run. Here are some things to try out.
Swap Tobacco for E Liquids
An e liquid shop and vape supplier has been very popular in the last few years because of their abilities to help wean people off cigarettes. If you are looking to give up smoking, this is the best place to begin.
Sparkling Water Instead of Soda Drinks
We all feel that temptation for a can of sparkling soda on a hot day, but if you want to have something that feels naughty, but less sugary, the best approach is to get some sparkling water and put a little bit of cordial in it. It tastes sugary, and it also has that satisfying feel like you are drinking soda.
Yoghurt Instead of Cereal
Yes, cereal is fortified with vitamins and iron, but there is still a lot of sugar in there. The best thing you can do, if you want to make a change and have more goodness, is to have a hearty bowl of porridge. Porridge can be bland and unappealing, but you can add things in there to sweeten it up, such as cinnamon, but you can also put fruit in there. There’s nothing wrong with putting some fruit in because it still has the fibre intact. It’s when we blitz up the fruit that it removes any of the fibre, resulting in pure sugar.
Roasted Vegetables Instead of Fries
Everybody loves some fries and ketchup, but if you are really trying to make one of those swaps that don’t feel too different, roasted vegetables like sweet potatoes or beetroot have that texture like fries. And because of their crunchy texture, they are a very satisfying snack. Try other root vegetables like carrots and parsnips, add a little bit of salt and balsamic vinegar to taste, and this could be a game-changer.
Exercising on the Couch While Sitting on It
Of course, it’s important to hit the gym but if you are constantly struggling to get to the gym after a long day, instead of just sitting on the couch, you can start to do a little bit of exercising. There are initiatives like the Couch to 5k out there, but if you have had a long day, isometrics are a fantastic way to get those muscles working. Because it’s a very short, and incredibly intense exercise where you tense your body, it feels like doing those last terrible reps at the gym!
It doesn’t have to be difficult, but you must remember that when you make swaps in your life, do one at a time. Make it gradual, because this is what will make those swaps stick forever.
