8 Alternative Ideas For A More Interesting Christmas Party This Year

The Christmas season is a time for giving gifts and enjoying great food with the family, and it’s also time for parties. The typical Christmas party is an evening affair that tends to involve quite a lot of drinking. That’s fine but it’s not always the most inclusive, what about your friends that don’t like to drink that much? Your party isn’t going to be that memorable either if it’s just the same as every other Christmas party that your guests are going to this year. Why not do something a bit more inventive instead? These are some of the best alternatives for your Christmas party this year.

Scavenger Hunts

A scavenger hunt might sound like a bit of a childish idea but it can be great fun for adults as well. People don’t always know their own city that well so this is a great way to help people to explore and find some hidden gems in the local area. Set up a scavenger hunt around the city during the day, maybe having people take photos of certain things or collecting items from places. For example, you can get them to photograph monuments and pick up free leaflets from places like museums etc. If you want to go all out, you could even hide things of your own around the city. You can add a few bars in along the way so people can still have a drink and consider ending the scavenger hunt at everybody’s favourite restaurant so you can have a meal together afterwards. And of course, you should offer prizes for the fastest time.

Go Karting

Group activities are always more fun than just going to a bar for a few drinks, and they’re more inclusive for all of the people that don’t like to drink that much. Karting is a great option that’s good fun for everybody. It’s easy to pick up and it promotes a bit of healthy competition between your friends. You can still go for a drink afterwards if you like but if people don’t want to, they can head home straight after the karting.

Afternoon Tea

If you’re looking for a more civilised version of the usual boozy Christmas party, afternoon tea is a great option. Most nice hotels offer an afternoon tea package that is usually pretty reasonable or you could host your own at home. You can still get all of your friends and family in one place and celebrate the holidays together, but it doesn’t all revolve around drinking all night long. It might be a little expensive so you need to limit the number of people that you invite if you’re going to do it in a fancy place.

Brewery Tours

You don’t have to ditch the drink entirely to have an interesting Christmas party because most people still like to have a few drinks when they’re celebrating. But you can do it with a bit more purpose rather than just getting drunk in a bar all night. Brewery tours are massive at the minute because the craft beer scene is really blowing up right now. You should be able to find a tour near you where you can spend the day learning about how your favourite beers are made and sample a whole range. Gin is big at the moment as well and there are a lot of new distilleries popping up all over the place. A lot of them are offering great tours as well and they might be a better option because not everybody likes beer that much.

Murder Mystery Evenings

A lot of people think that murder mystery evenings are a bit tacky but they’re actually a lot of fun. There are a lot of great packages that you can get where you’ll go to a hotel or a country house and there will be actors and a whole murder mystery evening set up. You can also get a kit and plan your own. They’re usually themed so there are plenty of Christmas ones available. It’s up to you and your guests to work out which one of you is the culprit. It’s great fun as long as everybody gets involved and you’ll get a nice meal provided as part of the evening.

Escape Rooms

Escape rooms are so popular at the moment and it seems like they’re popping up on every street corner. They’re great team challenges where you have to solve a series of puzzles and challenges to get out of the room in the fastest time possible. They vary in difficulty so don’t worry if you haven’t done one before, you can do one of the easier ones. There are plenty of great themed rooms so you could do a Christmas one or if you’re feeling brave, there are some great horror themed ones as well. A lot of them offer a party package with food and drink supplied after you get out which is ideal for a party package.

Comedy Clubs

Everybody loves to laugh so why not go to a comedy club. There are some great classic comedy clubs where you can get table service so if people are hungry, they can still eat something. It’s a good cheap option because you can get tickets for around £15 in most good comedy clubs and you’ll be able to see some pretty big names for that price.

Trampoline Party

Trampoline parks have really taken off in the last couple of years and while you might think they’re just for kids, they’re actually great fun for adults. It’s a great way for you and your friends to let loose and act like kids again. Most trampoline parks offer an adult session or you could splash out and hire the whole place out for yourself.

Inviting everybody out to a bar and putting some food on still makes for a great Christmas party but everybody is going to do that and people might get fed up with it after a while. Not everybody likes going out drinking either so it’s better to do something that includes everybody. All of these ideas are perfect for a more interesting Christmas party this year.
