As the darker nights draw in perhaps it’s time to consider how to make the most of the inside of the house. The colder weather and darker evenings can make you less eager to leave the warmth of your home and with Christmas looming and visitors likely if you are going to make changes now is a good time.
With this in mind, and with me having convinced myself, I’ve put together a brief post about the top interior trends for the Autumn months, together with home improvements you could make to go alongside the way.
One Autumn interiors trend I think is great is adding texture into your kitchen. These can often be minimal spaces and adding one tactile wall can make a huge difference while keeping the area clutter-free. Perhaps it’s time to think of building materials alongside paint when decorating? Choosing to create a visible brick wall using brick slips instead of wallpaper can add depth and a clean modern environment with bold texture as its feature.
If you’re lucky enough to be extending your kitchen or making decisions about a new build, you can plan to mix it up in the kitchen with contrasting colours and textures There are a wide choice of bricks to choose from to create the atmosphere you are looking for. A backdrop to contrast or compliment your kitchen units and worksurface. An exciting new arena for interior decoration taking the designers into the Builders Merchants.
Let there be Light
In my personal opinion, when the weather getting colder and wetter, I want my home to be as cosy as possible, a place you can really feel relaxed, warm and snug while watching the rain hit your window pane.
Astrology and geometry are featuring highly in design this Autumn and lighting is no exception. Whether it’s a starburst central light or desk lamp with a tall geometric base their presence can be felt. Exposed bulbs with geometric pipework can combine wall art with a lighting feature, keeping it bold and parred back. Lighting isn’t subtle this season, with palettes from black and gold to silver and grey. Keep an eye on the wealth of lighting effects available and light up your home to reflect your own style.
The perfect colour scheme for Autumn? Navy Blue
The colour that is going to appear everywhere this Autumn is navy blue. This dark sophisticated tone creates a rich backdrop to both furniture and accessories. The good thing is that it’s gentle on the eye and able to be teamed with colours from gold through to grey. It could be used in any room in the house from bedroom to lounge. A darker dramatic palette of colours is on-trend this Autumn with navy blue leading the way.
A feature wall of this hue in paint or a dramatic wallpaper would allow you to make a seasonal change without going overboard. The depth of this colour will create the stage to both defuse and add drama to light features. Adding some navy touches within soft furnishings, rugs or curtains can complete the effect. Be bold!
