Best Safety Tips for Riding a Motorcycle

If you’re new to the world of motorcycling, then you may be a bit nervous about hitting the road. This is especially true if you’ve only ever driven in a car before, as you are not used to having your whole body exposed. Nonetheless, riding a bike can be a much better experience, not to mention a lot cheaper to maintain as well.

With that in mind, here are five tips to help you stay safe while on the road.

Make Sure Your Bike is In Shape

Whether you bought a brand new hog or purchased a motorcycle second-hand, you still want to ensure that your bike has all the right components and accessories needed to make your trip. Go to a motorcycle parts store and ask for assistance so you don’t miss anything crucial, like a quality muffler or clutch.

Wear the Right Gear

While it may seem a bit innocuous, the fact is, wearing the right gear can help out a lot. Not only will it keep you intact in the event of a spill, but it will also help you feel protected. Motorcycle jackets and Arai full face helmets are excellent pieces of safety equipment that you should have with you at all times.

Keep Space Around You

When riding in traffic, be sure to allow to leave plenty of room between you and the vehicles in front of you. Even if you’re a veteran of the streets, having space will ensure that you aren’t caught off guard, resulting in you slamming into the back of a vehicle that has suddenly stopped.

Be Aware of Your Surroundings

Use mirrors, your peripheral vision, and anything else you can to stay vigilant. This is especially important when turning and merging. Don’t let yourself get complacent, that’s when accidents happen.

Practice Makes Perfect

If you’re extremely nervous about riding, then that can be more of a danger than anything else. Confidence will only come over time, so be sure to practice as much as possible, even if it’s just riding around the neighbourhood.
